they say internship is an opportunity to gain hands - on - the job experience in a field of your liking or just in the working environment. so i got this opportunity to learn from the already accomplished employees of NCCK in the name of an intern and for the past 1 yr(2009) i have been learning skills on how to do programme work and other administrative duties. i must say the experience was awesome. i worked in western kenya(my native province), where i had longed for many years to be. so this was an opportunity not only to learn from professionals but also revive my memories of childhood.
nyhuu, the experience, first i must say working with a christian org. was ok, atleast for my parents and 'i', it gives 'you' a Christian foundation, jst in case your peros were too busy to. i was given the 1st responsibility as the prayer coordinator(what?), yes,for me that ain't fun(ny), i mean, i tried it in cole(never seen that lady though),CU,n din't workout.but i managed, i mean, i later learnt that ol i had to do was assign, assign and assign, easy huh! the second was to accompany the prg. officer to the fields,me likey this part of job description, had to go like to every corner of the province, who wouldnt? i was treated like the boss(me not like this part),though it felt good sometimes. off the job duties really rocked, sight seeing, eating from a cafe` in the village, eating roasted maize by the road side, flirting with village girls(they like it),learning local language, jst trynna be funny.(am not funny though,i wish i was) the third one was reporting back to head office,(involved alot of comps. & net), i was a guru.so this rily didn't excite me much.there were other admn. issues that involved sending me arnd, i cud handle that, reconciling books of accounts. but there was this stipend issue that really weighed on me,if not on us(we were 9). this is what made me realize that money and jobs/careers go hand in hand, never settle for less than your worth,it frustrates you in the end, affects your general output, you cud be sacked, u know. the good thing is that i have learnt my lessons and so as i move on, i know the dos and don'ts of a workplace. i will take this experience to all levels of my engagement in my life.
so i would like to say thanks to all those who encouraged me,stood by me, supported me,made laugh, gave me hope made cry, really? no i'm a man, and were just there wen i needed them, thanks a buck. and to those we had this experience with together, you rocked. to you,yes ,you, thanks.
